Extended Family Photography

Capturing the Legacy of Your Entire Family

There is a unique magic that happens when multiple generations come together. At DreamCatcher Photography, we believe these moments shouldn't just be reserved for weddings or rare reunions. Our extended family sessions are designed to celebrate the roots and branches of your family tree, prioritizing genuine interaction over stiff, traditional posing.

Whether you are gathering the grandparents for a milestone anniversary or simply want to document all the cousins playing together, our approach remains flexible and relaxed. We adapt to the energy of the group, ensuring that everyone—from the youngest toddler to the family patriarch—feels comfortable and seen.

What the Session Includes

Managing a large group requires a blend of organization and spontaneity. We provide full guidance on location selection near Vicksburg, MI, wardrobe coordination to ensure a cohesive (but not matching) look, and timing that works for everyone’s schedule.

During your session, we focus on a variety of groupings:

  • The "Big Legacy" Shot: The full extended family in one beautiful frame.
  • The Original Core: Grandparents with their adult children.
  • The Grandkids: All the cousins together (often the favorite photo for Grandma’s mantel!).
  • Individual Families: Each smaller family unit gets their own dedicated time for portraits and candids.
  • Generational Breakouts: Grandmothers with granddaughters, grandfathers with grandsons, and original siblings.
  • These sessions typically last between 60 to 90 minutes, allowing enough time for everyone to settle in without feeling rushed. You’ll receive a curated gallery of high-resolution digital files, professionally edited to reflect the true warmth and color of your family’s connection.

Answering Your Questions About Large Group Sessions

How do we coordinate outfits for so many people?

We recommend choosing a base palette of 3–4 coordinating colors (such as earth tones, blues, and creams) and distributing them across the different families. Avoid large logos or identical "uniform" outfits so everyone’s individual personality can shine through.

What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?

Michigan weather can be unpredictable! We keep a close eye on the forecast and offer flexible rescheduling options or can pivot to an in-home lifestyle session if the space allows.

Can we include our family pets?

Absolutely! Pets are part of the family legacy, too. We just ask that you bring a handler (or a treat-motivated helper) to assist when the pets aren't in the frame.

How far in advance should we book?

Because these sessions involve coordinating many schedules, we recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks in advance, especially for popular fall and spring dates in the Vicksburg and Kalamazoo areas.
